The government wants to raise the withholding tax from 15% to 25%. With this measurement the government hopes to reduce the deficit with 1.1 billion euros. The Van Rompuy Cabinet will only tax the interest from your savings account if it’s higher than 1.750 Euros. The government also wants to collect 1.1 billion Euros from the banks and the energy sector, the last amount of money needs to come from savings in the social security.
